Two men are dead, and a third is in the hospital fighting for his life after a serious crash near a railroad crossing in Doraville Saturday morning.

The DeKalb County fire department and police responded to the crash just after 8 a.m. It happened near Flowers Road and School Drive.

According to officials, it appeared to be a single-vehicle crash involving a convertible Mustang. The conductor of an oncoming train saw the crash, stopped the train and called for help.

When emergency first responders arrived, they found two of the victims trapped in the convertible while the third appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle.

“The vehicle appeared to have missed the curve here, there’s a heavy curve on this road,” Captain Jaeson Daniels told FOX 5.

He said investigators believed the driver lost control of the car, went off the road and landed about 20 feet away onto nearby railroad tracks.

Luckily, the conductor of an oncoming train saw the car on the tracks in enough time to stop and call 911.

Stephany Tenorio, who lives nearby, said she travels Flowers Road every day. She said she was deeply troubled to learn what happened.

“I drive this daily to get to the farmers market, to the Buford highway corridor…my family has been here for over 20 years and just hearing something like this…a vehicle that’s been identified…it’s just really shocking,” she said.

Tenorio told FOX 5 she hoped to see more safety measures put in place on that portion of the road.

“I definitely think some more lighting, maybe putting some type of signage out there, would be great.”

It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Georgia State Patrol has taken over the crash investigation. Authorities have not yet identified the victims.
