GSP: 4 hospitalized after suspect drives into oncoming traffic, hits multiple cars during chase
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A police chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash that sent four people to the hospital Thursday evening.
At around 7:16 p.m., Georgia State Patrol was searching for a reported stolen Kia that was believed to be in the area of Redan Road and South Indian Creek Road.
Troopers located a car matching the description pulling out of a gas station and began trying to pull the driver over.
GSP said the driver refused to stop and a chase began. While trying to get away near Mill Lake Drive, investigators said the driver entered the westbound lanes and struck a Nissan that was traveling west. The Nissan spun and entered the eastbound lane, crashing into a GSP patrol car.
The stolen Kia crashed into three other vehicles before coming to a stop, authorities said. Troopers were able to take the suspect into custody after finding him trapped in the crashed Kia. They said they found a stolen firearm on him.
Four people were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The passenger of the Nissan reportedly suffered serious injuries, GSP said. Two others had minor cuts and bruises, they added.
