Man dies at Cartersville solar plant after suspected nitrogen leak, officials say
It happened at the QCells solar panel plant in Cartersville on Monday evening, which is about an hour from Atlanta.
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A man in his mid-30s is now dead after a possible nitrogen leak at a Cartersville solar panel plant on Monday, according to the Cartersville Fire Department.
It happened at the QCells solar panel plant in Cartersville, which is about an hour from Atlanta. The incident unfolded around 7:15 p.m. on Monday when firefighters responded to the plant for a medical emergency.
When they arrived, they found a man on top of a tank with no pulse, and he wasn’t breathing.
Firefighters used air tanks and air monitors while trying to remove the man from on top of the tank, according to a news release from the department.
Officials added that the oxygen level at the top of the tank was around 15%, which they said isn’t enough for someone to survive.
Authorities are investigating the man’s death, but they believe that a possible nitrogen leak was the cause of his death since there were no other chemicals or gases being used in the area.
The man’s identity has not been released.
