HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol is looking into whether a driver involved in a high-speed pursuit caused an accident that killed two people.

It happened on State Route 365 right near Mud Creek Road in Hall County

Joanna Cross said she was on her way to North Carolina Sunday and drove by seconds after the crash happened and tried to help the victims. But by the time she got there, it was already too late.

“It was pretty brutal,” Cross said. “I was sad and I was worried. I tried to go to the scene to see if anyone was still breathing.”

Troopers said just before 3 p.m., the driver of a Honda Accord rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Official said the impact caused the driver of the truck to lose control, spin out onto the median and then flip over several times.

Both the driver and the passenger inside the truck died.

Troopers said the driver of the Accord then hit another truck, but that driver survived.

Cross sent Washington video of the emergency response. Right now, troopers think the driver of the Honda Accord was the same drive involved in a high-speed chase that happened in another county just minutes before the deadly crash.

Georgia State Patrol said charges are still pending against the driver of the Accord
